On this third installment of our mini-series “Calgary craft beer 101″ we will be looking at one of the most common questions regarding Calgary craft beer. Just how expensive is it?

Unfortunately there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer to this question because prices depend on many, many things. Just like prices of well… everything vary! As an example, you can buy a bottle of wine for $9 straight from your local liqueur store, but it’s not uncommon to see quality wine bottles cost up to hundreds of dollars.

(Don’t worry though: It’s pretty rare to see craft beer cost that much.)

The best way for you find out how expensive craft beer is is by visiting your local micro-brewery. Keep in mind, however, that micro-breweries differ from one another as well, so how much you end up paying for an IPA in Edmonton might not be reflective of how much an IPA costs in Calgary.

Also keep in mind that craft beer is generally more expensive than “regular” beer (you know, the type that you buy from your local liqueur store). This is because craft beer is hand-brewed and made from fresh, local ingredients. It takes considerably more time to produce craft beer than it does “regular” beer as well. Large, commercial breweries simply don’t put as much love and care into ensuring that the beer they produce is the best possible beer that they can produce.

So while you pay extra for time, you also pay extra for quality. If you ask us, it’s totally worth it though. :)
