Minhas Oktoberfest BeerBefore refrigeration, it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer due to the hot weather and bacterial infections. Brewing ended with the coming of spring, and began again in the fall. Most were brewed in March (Märzen). These brews were kept in cold storage over the spring and summer months, or brewed at a higher gravity, so they would keep as they were the last to be consumed prior to the brewing start up for winter.  Märzenbier now more commonly called Oktoberfest is a Bavarian style beer.

Tasting Notes

This beers rich copper color pours to a nice full, lingering head.  It has a rich, slightly sweet and toasty aroma and flavor.  The caramel malt flavors come through nicely and balance well with a mild hop presence.

Cheese and Food Pairing

Oktoberfest beer can cut through some of the spicier dishes such as sausages, and sauerbraten. It can also pair well with a heavier dessert that has some spice to it. Romano, Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheeses are a good match.

Oktoberfest Beer is available in the Midwest US only and at the Minhas Craft Brewery Gift Shop in season.
